My heart is choosing gratitude today! Gratitude for each of you who I get to share my journey with…gratitude for this beautiful bouquet of flowers that a dear friend sent to me this week, bringing such joy to my soul…gratitude for this season that He has me in and for what’s yet to come…gratitude for new relationships and old friends who have stayed the course with me…and gratitude for the things that are, instead of apathy for the things that aren’t.

With the political unrest that I saw present this past weekend in this city of Portland…this place where I do life and go to school…where national recognition was received, noting the threat for violence as two hate groups prepared to battle against each other…with the warnings to stay out of the area beaming across the news headlines. I thought to myself: what a world we live in that at the announcement of anticipated violence, we choose to live in such fear.

While the reality of this all can be cause for the uprising of fear, let’s choose gratitude…choose to live in quiet confidence, knowing that Jesus is King over all! Hallelujah!

Academics:

*And here we are in week 9! We’ve wrapped up almost all of our group projects and are preparing to close our patient cases and turn in final essays. This term has brought about great learning experiences and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working with the fire department and learning what health and wellness looks like beyond the walls of the hospital. I am going to miss the interactions with the individuals at the fire station and will miss all the burrito lunch runs and thrill rides in the fire trucks with lights and sirens, and in-depth conversations with my colleagues about how we can better patient care in the community. Now to the finish line we go…

*This past week, I had the pleasure of joining my aunt and uncle at the county fair where we got to serve as judges in a baking competition- All Things Hazelnut! It was a delicious competition with amazing entries and lots of enjoyable moments along the way. Our time at the fair, ended with the rodeo (where Oregon cowboys/cowgirls failed to impress!), and overall ended up being a very fun day! Trying to enjoy these last bits of summer as I feel the coolness of fall making its way to us.

Must-Haves:

*I just got this cute shirt from old navy for $5.99! Love the eyelet sleeves.

*Finishing up this book by my pastor, John Mark called, Loveology. A beautiful look at the study of love, designed by God and created to extend to others.

 Goals for the Week:

*Choose gratitude…when I want to see only what’s lacking or when I want to let the louder voice be the one that tells me negativity- choose gratitude. Choose to see what’s present and what’s good and let that be enough…

Love to you friends!

Blessings,
Lindsey
